Helping children build healthy dental habits

Baby teeth matter

Baby teeth affect eating, speech and everyday comfort. Cavities, discolouration or persistent discomfort should not be ignored because the teeth will eventually fall out.

Prevention comes first

After an examination, discuss help with brushing, how often your child eats and whether fluoride or fissure sealants may be suitable.

Growing teeth and the bite

As adult teeth emerge, we can monitor their development and alignment. Advice about an orthodontic assessment depends on your child’s growth.

Frequently asked questions

Explore common questions, then discuss what is suitable for you at an individual assessment.

When should the first visit be?

The Australian Dental Association recommends starting dental visits when the first tooth appears. Parents can also seek advice if they have concerns.

Does a decayed baby tooth need removing?

Not always. Options depend on damage, infection, when the tooth is expected to fall out and the child’s circumstances.

What if my child is frightened?

Tell us beforehand. An assessment, explanations and breaks can help. Avoid describing a dental visit as punishment.

Does CDBS cover every treatment?

No. Eligibility and item restrictions apply. Confirm available benefits, covered items and possible out-of-pocket costs before consenting to care.
