Orthodontic Assessment in Sydney CBD

Orthodontics considers how the upper and lower teeth fit together as well as their alignment. At WOW Dental, a consultation combines your goals with an assessment of teeth and gums to compare fixed braces and clear aligners. Complex cases may need specialist assessment.

Understand your bite before choosing braces

Alignment and space

Crowding, gaps and tooth position need a complete assessment, rather than a decision based on a smile photograph alone.

How the teeth meet

The depth and front-to-back and side-to-side relationships of the bite affect planning and may influence the type of appliance.

Lifestyle and commitment

Cleaning, reviews and wear habits matter. Treatment requires cooperation between you and the care team.

Your orthodontics visit

  1. Consultation and records

Discuss appearance, chewing or cleaning concerns. Images and models are obtained as needed.

  2. Compare your options

Discuss achievable goals, limitations, timing and fees. An appliance brand does not replace an individual diagnosis.

  3. Adjustment and retention

Attend reviews during treatment and plan retainers and follow-up afterwards to reduce unwanted tooth movement.

Understand the costs first

Fees depend on complexity, appliances and the scope of treatment. Check whether examinations, imaging, reviews, extra adjustments and retainers are included.

Frequently asked questions

Explore common questions, then discuss what is suitable for you at an individual assessment.

Can adults have orthodontic treatment?

Yes, adults can be assessed. Gum and overall oral health are more important than age alone.

Will teeth need to be removed?

Not necessarily. Space, facial proportions and the bite must be assessed before discussing extractions or other ways of managing space.

Are clear aligners better than fixed braces?

Neither is right for everyone. They offer different movement control and require different levels of patient participation.

Why are retainers needed?

Teeth can move again after treatment. Follow your dentist’s individual instructions for the type of retainer and wear schedule.
