Care for you and your everyday oral health

Bleeding and swollen gums

Hormonal changes can make gums more sensitive to plaque. Persistent bleeding needs assessment, rather than stopping gentle cleaning.

Morning sickness and changes in eating

Frequent vomiting, reflux or changes to snacking are worth discussing so your dentist can suggest suitable care.

Timing and comfort

Care is planned according to clinical need and personal circumstances. Discuss positioning and breaks for longer appointments beforehand.

Frequently asked questions

Explore common questions, then discuss what is suitable for you at an individual assessment.

Can I have my teeth cleaned while pregnant?

Necessary examinations and cleaning can generally be provided. Tell your dentist about the pregnancy and medical history first so care can be planned.

Should a toothache wait until after birth?

Do not decide to wait without assessment. Contact your dentist to establish the cause and urgency, with maternity-team coordination if needed.

Can I have dental X-rays while pregnant?

If clinically needed, your dentist can assess appropriate imaging. Always tell the team if you are pregnant or may be pregnant.

When is a dental visit most comfortable?

Many people find the second trimester more comfortable, but urgent problems should be assessed at any stage. Care is not restricted to one trimester.
